The
History of Best of Iowa Community Credit
Union:

In
1956 this credit union opened to
serve Iowa Electric Employees and
their families, thus the name Light
Company Employees Credit Union. It
became obvious that if we wanted
to continue to give our membership
the latest in financial services,
and remain competitive, we would
have to increase our field of membership. At
this point we included several other
select employee groups, and in 1992,
we removed the word "Employees" from
our name and became Light Company
Credit Union.

In
1995, Light Company Credit Union
obtained a community charter that
allowed all persons living or working
in Linn County, Iowa, to become members. We
needed a new name to reflect our
community status and to emphasize
the type of credit union we had always
been. Our new name, Best of
Iowa Community Credit Union was chosen
by the Board of Directors & Staff.

On
October 24th, 2002 BICCU obtained
an expanded community charter that
includes Linn County as well as all
of the seven surrounding counties. Now,
anyone living or working in Linn,
Benton, Johnson, Jones, Cedar,
Delaware or Buchanan County is eligible
for membership.

On
January 7, 2008 we opened a branch office
located at 412 1st Avenue in Vinton.
We are currently the only credit union in
Benton County, Iowa.

Best
of Iowa Community Credit Union is
an insured cooperative financial
institution, owned by its members.
Unlike a bank or savings and loan
association, a credit union is not
for profit and is dedicated only
to serving its members, who share
a common bond such as employment
at the same company or residence
in the same geographic location.

Credit
union members pool their money to
make their collective savings available
for low-cost loans to each other.
Since credit unions are not for profit,
earnings are distributed to members
either in the form of better returns
on their savings, rebates on loans,
or investments in improved services
for the members.
